Subaru and TerraCycle Team Up to Love the Earth

Did you know that less than a quarter of the trash generated in the United States gets recycled? With more than 230 million tons created each year, that is a lot of waste. To help combat this, Subaru and TerraCycle® are teaming up to put some of that waste to use.

Starting last month, Subaru dealers started receiving TerraCycle® Zero Waste™ boxes to encourage customers and employees to start recycling certain hard-to-recycle materials. This includes things like snacks wrappers, single-use coffee capsules, and disposable cups.

These collected items will then be turned into useful items like picnic tables, playground materials, and park benches. Subaru partners can view and order these recycled products online for community use starting this fall.

“At Subaru, we feel it’s our personal responsibility to protect Earth’s natural wonders and encourage our retailers and customers to engage in smart environmental practices, simply because it’s the right thing to do,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc.

Along with encouraging people to recycle these items, Subaru also created a list of “Trash-Hacks.” Here are a few that we found useful.

  • Use both sides of your copy paper and program printers to automatically print double-sided.
  • Focus on electronic reports instead of printing to save paper.
  • Reuse file folders by folding them in the opposite direction.
  • Save the packing material you receive in packages to reuse when you ship something.

Subaru and United By Blue Partnership to Provide 6 Waterway Cleanups

The Subaru and United By Blue partnership will be providing 6 waterway cleanups throughout the end of this year and in 2016. The partnership efforts will help to keep rivers and oceans free of garbage.

United By Blue’s mission is to have a pound of waste removed from waterways for every product they sell, and Subaru is the official vehicle of the clean-up efforts.

Subaru’s partnership with United by Blue enters its fourth year with a commitment to waste removal.

Together their goal is to reach 250,000 pounds of trash removal by the end of the year.

Brian Linton, founder of United By Blue, said, “We are proud to continue our partnership with Subaru, a brand that shares our commitment to saving the environment.”

This round of clean-ups recently started at the end of last month and will run through May 2016. To date, United By Blue has removed 243,843 pounds from rivers, streams, oceans and creaks after 131 organized cleanups.
