In 2015, Subaru partnered with PFLAG National (Parents, Family, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) and its chapters nationwide. The goal was to create safer school environments for LGBTQ youth. In June, in honor of Pride Month, Subaru announced its support for PFLAG again and its plans to partner with the company for the Cultivating Respect: Safe Schools for All program.
According to PFLAG, 9 out of 10 LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) students report being bullied and harassed by classmates and even faculty on the basis of their orientation or gender identity. Through the Cultivating Respect program, PFLAG chapters will work directly with schools to develop programs, provide training and resources, and create policies to help ensure safer environments for LGBTQ students.
The Subaru PLFAG partnership is expanding this year. Subaru is increasing its funding and supporting the Cultivating Respect Program’s Top Ten Ways to Keep Schools Safe publication. Subaru is also supporting PFLAG’s We Are the Change national convention, which will be held in Portland, Oregon, this year. The convention focuses on education and relationship building and will recognize individual chapters for outstanding work in their communities.

Taking road trips with kids can be a stressful experience. Kids can be distracting and definitely make things take a little longer than they would if you were by yourself. Here are some tips on road tripping with kids that will make things go smoother and keep you from going crazy.
Get snacks to keep your kids from getting hungry on the road. Choose dry snacks that you won’t mind cleaning up if they spill. Even if your kids have outgrown sippy cups, dig them out from storage and put their drinks in them so you don’t have to clean grape juice out of your nice tan seats.
Check out items from your library to keep the kids entertained instead of spending money on new books and games. Libraries have tons of children’s books, DVDs, board games, and even mobile hotspots. They’re a great resource!
Traveling with your spouse or another adult? Have them sit in the back and entertain the kids to keep them from getting too cranky. Factor in extra time for bathroom breaks and stopping to let them run around and get some energy out, and again, make sure they have access to snacks and drinks. Sometimes though, you’re just not going to be able to stop them from crying. And if nothing is wrong with them you just have to tune it out.

Every holiday season, Subaru has hosted its Share the Love event. The History of Share the Love dates back to 2008 when the program was introduced. Share the Love usually lasts from mid-November until just after the New Year.
During the special fundraising event, Subaru will donate money to a charity of the customer’s choosing for every Subaru bought or leased. For the 2016 event, Subaru had four national charities for customers to choose from: ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, Meals on Wheels America, and the National Park Foundation. In addition to these national charities, there were a number of local charities to choose from, too.
Steve Lewis Subaru always participates in Share the Love and last year was able to raise $56,465 locally for Relay for Life. Relay for Life is a signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society where teams walk along a designated path for up to 24 hours to show that cancer never sleeps.
For Subaru’s 2016 Share the Love event, it set a new record by raising $24.8 million. This brings the total amount raised over the past nine years to over $94 million.
Here at Steve Lewis Subaru, we are looking forward to the 10th annual Share the Love event later this year and think it will be the best year to date.
Everyone knows and loves Subaru for their capable, all-wheel drive vehicles that beg to be taken on an adventure. The brand has its lineup of go-to 5-passenger utility vehicles, like the Forester and the Outback which have continued to gain followers since their debuts in the 1990s.
But one thing Subaru has lacked at times is a vehicle that can hold more people. There hasn’t been a larger, three-row option in the lineup since Subaru’s seven-passenger vehicle the Tribeca which was discontinued in 2014. Something about the Tribeca just didn’t stick in the three-row crossover segment. Yet Subaru doesn’t let that keep them from trying again.
Recently, spy photos of a new Subaru seven-passenger crossover were released. Their second attempt at success in this class looks boxier than the last, reminiscent of the Forester’s design. With that in mind, the new SUV—still officially unnamed at the moment—should have a very roomy interior. Despite having not released a name for this new crossover, enthusiasts in the industry are calling it the Ascent, drawing from the fact that Subaru applied for a trademark on the name Ascent earlier this year.
No matter what this new three-row crossover is called, we can’t wait to have some on the Steve Lewis Subaru lot. As far as we’re concerned, Subaru can’t do wrong and we expect that we’ll have plenty of clients who are excited to have another chance at a Subaru with more seating.

Improving the lives of animals is a lot of work and the Dakin Humane Society has been doing it a long time, since 1969 in fact. There are a number of different ways that the Dakin Humane Society achieves this goal. They provide shelter as well as medical care for animals in need. Spay/neuter services are regularly performed at the shelter. The organization also offers behavioral rehabilitation services. All in all, they help some 20,000 animals each year.
It’s important to note that the group does not receive any government funding nor are they funded by any national humane society. They are only able to operate through the generous donations of charitable organizations. That’s where Steve Lewis Subaru comes in. The dealership donated over a $1,000 to the Dakin Humane Society in January alone.

There’s no greater worldwide celebration of Irish culture than during the month of March! St. Patrick’s Day started out as a Catholic feast day but quickly grew to become something much greater. Despite its popularity, the history of St. Patrick’s Day lies with St. Patrick himself and his actions to help the Irish community and culture become what it is today.
Known as the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick’s life began around the year 400. He was born to a Roman-British army officer and was subsequently kidnapped by pirates in his early childhood. From there, he was sold into slavery into Ireland and ended up spending several of his early years in prison. It was only after he dreamed of God telling him to escape that he did so.
Patrick made his way to France where he joined a monastery and rose to the rank of bishop. After 12 years, he returned, with the blessing of the pope, to Ireland to convert the population. He made converts of people from all walks of life, including members of royal families.
Over his 20-year stretch in Ireland, he built schools, established monasteries, and laid the foundation for what Ireland has become today.

Subaru is giving back to communities across the US by partnering with the Feeding America campaign. This is the third year in a row that the brand has announced a sales-matching meal donations program for Feeding America, giving over 600,000 meals to those in need. As the eighth record-breaking sales year in a row, it seemed fitting that Subaru should give something back. Read on to learn more about the Subaru Feeding America campaign.
According to Subaru, the Subaru matching program gave one meal for every vehicle sold in 2016—more than 615,000—to the Feeding America organization. Feeding America’s mission is the end hunger in the US one meal at a time, and Subaru gave over $55,000 in order to do so. The Feeding America organization is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief program.
“One in eight people face hunger in America, including more than 13 million children. We are thankful to Subaru for its ongoing commitment to fighting hunger and supporting children and families in need,” said Nancy Curby, senior vice president of corporate partnerships and operations for Feeding America.
About $1 helps to provide 11 meals thanks to some innovative strategies by Feeding America. A large portion of the donations go to food banks near South Jersey, home of Subaru headquarters. Other places that received donations were Orlando, FL, Dublin, OH, Portland, OR, and more. This is just one of many ways Subaru is giving back to communities across the US.
