The New Subaru BRZ tS is Simply Fun to Drive

The New 2018 Subaru BRZ tS is fun to drive

The Subaru BRZ tS is an exciting new version of the sporty BRZ sports car. The tS trim level comes with several added performance features, a revamped design, and improved driving dynamics. Even if you’re not a performance junkie, the new Subaru BRZ tS will redefine the way you think about driving.

According to AutoWeek, the BRZ tS has the same 205-horsepower engine you’ll find on the standard trim, as well as the BRZ’s standard 156 lb-ft of torque. However, the major changes to this model include STI-tuned Sachs dampers, coil springs, draw stiffeners, and 18-inch lightweight wheels. You also get Michelin Pilot Sport tires and a manually adjustable carbon-fiber spoiler.

“The BRZ has to be top five in the ‘Most Fun Car to Drive Legally on the Street’ category,” said Jake Lingeman, road test editor at AutoWeek, emphasizing the BRZ’s incredible driving dynamics. While the BRZ tS may not be as fast as some supercars, it’s still just as fun to drive.

Other great features include the Brembo brakes, which are specially designed to give you optimal stopping power on the track. The steering has been tweaked to help you handle corners better, and the short-throw six-speed manual transmission will make driving engaging. Considering the affordability of the BRZ tS, this is one car that will truly provide more bang for your buck.

Subaru and TerraCycle Team Up to Love the Earth

Stack of Bottles - Subaru and TerraCycle

Did you know that less than a quarter of the trash generated in the United States gets recycled? With more than 230 million tons created each year, that is a lot of waste. To help combat this, Subaru and TerraCycle® are teaming up to put some of that waste to use.

Starting last month, Subaru dealers started receiving TerraCycle® Zero Waste™ boxes to encourage customers and employees to start recycling certain hard-to-recycle materials. This includes things like snacks wrappers, single-use coffee capsules, and disposable cups.

These collected items will then be turned into useful items like picnic tables, playground materials, and park benches. Subaru partners can view and order these recycled products online for community use starting this fall.

“At Subaru, we feel it’s our personal responsibility to protect Earth’s natural wonders and encourage our retailers and customers to engage in smart environmental practices, simply because it’s the right thing to do,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc.

Along with encouraging people to recycle these items, Subaru also created a list of “Trash-Hacks.” Here are a few that we found useful.

  • Use both sides of your copy paper and program printers to automatically print double-sided.
  • Focus on electronic reports instead of printing to save paper.
  • Reuse file folders by folding them in the opposite direction.
  • Save the packing material you receive in packages to reuse when you ship something.

Here at Steve Lewis Subaru, we are always looking for new ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

Subaru’s Dog Ads Make a Return

The Barkley family is back and looking better than ever in Subaru’s most recent set of ads. Featured in the “Dog Tested. Dog Approved” ad campaign, the Barkleys are a family Labrador and golden retrievers. Needless to say, their place in Subaru’s dog ads have earned them more than a few fans.

Subaru’s most recent dog-friendly ad campaign is composed of four 30-second commercials. Dubbed “Driving Lesson,” “Car Wash,” “Drive Away,” and “Drop Off,” the ads put these lovable pups in situations that many humans have faced at least once in their life.

Driving Lesson” features one of the puppies getting, well, a driving lesson in the Subaru Impreza. Along the way, the pup gets distracted by some geese and knocks over a mailbox.

Drop Off” features the two parents dropping their puppy off for the first day of school. Amid all the dog whimpers from behind the wheel of the upcoming Subaru Ascent, we’ve got to say that we here at Steve Lewis Subaru love the look of the three-row SUV.

In “Car Wash,” the Barkley’s get their Subaru Ascent hosed down after what looks like an off-road adventure.

The final ad, “Drive Away,” features a teen retriever pulling the start-and-stop prank on dad. In the end, the teen is no longer behind the wheel of the Subaru Crosstrek.

Subaru Unveils New Performance Concept Car in Tokyo

performance concept car

The Tokyo Motor Show is always a fun time of year for auto makers and enthusiasts all over the globe. Some brands are busy unveiling the next model year of their current lineup, and others tease fans with futuristic concepts. Subaru joined in the fun by unveiling a new performance concept car, the Subaru VIZIV Performance STI Concept. This is not the first time a concept car bearing the VIZIV name made its appearance in Tokyo, with the first of its kind appearing onstage at last year’s event, too.

The VIZIV STI builds on the design of its prototypical predecessor, with a similar build, but with this concept having a more confident and aggressive look. It also takes some inspiration from previous Impreza models and STI concepts with hot pink accents, a stacked rear wing, and unique badging. Critics suspect that Subaru plans to incorporate the overall look of these concept cars into the next generation of STI models from the brand, which are expected to launch sometime after the year 2020.

Subaru’s STI lineup has remained largely unchanged for the past decade or so, thus necessitating the introduction of a new generation. With the VIZIV performance concept car making multiple appearances at the Tokyo Motor Show, Subaru seems to be hinting that it recognizes this and is working to rectify it.

But, in addition to the Crosstrek’s powerful AWD, it offers 8.7 inches of ground clearance, giving drivers control and stability in deeper snow drifts. If you’ve ever needed to hit the road before the plows have had their chance to run, you’ll appreciate those nearly nine inches of lift.

The 2018 Crosstrek also features a refined continuously variable transmission (CVT) for sophisticated responsiveness and a fine-tuned suspension, so no matter what sort of blizzard New England sends your way, your winter-ready Subaru Crosstrek will keep on delivering power and stability.

EyeSight Safety Suite

Finally, the Subaru Crosstrek offers an available safety system for ultimate security all winter long. Subaru’s intuitive EyeSight safety suite provides features from automatic emergency braking to adaptive cruise control, meaning you never need to lose confidence when behind the wheel of your Crosstrek.

Cleaning Out Your Car After Summer

cleaning out your car in Hadley, MA - washing blue vehicleMaybe it’s been a long summer. Perhaps you have gone on vacation, ferried the kids to soccer camp, or been through a few camping trips. In any case, you might have some cleaning to do now that the little ones are back in school. Cleaning out your car in preparation for fall and winter can be a major undertaking, so here are some major points you should hit.

Wash Your Car

This might be an obvious tip, but when cleaning your car always start off with a sparkling exterior. Make sure to get the undercarriage of your vehicle, too, and do your windows last – soapy water drips down and gets windows dirty again!

Separate “Toss” and “Keep” Piles

If you have a lot of junk in your vehicle, bring out a box and a trash bag. Put all the garbage you don’t want, like fast food wrappers, in the trash bag, and put the things you want to keep in the box.

Scrub the Floors

It’s a good idea to scrub the carpeted floors of your vehicle so that you get out any stains or dirt stuck in the corners.

Vacuum

Finish up your floors by running the vacuum and sucking up any crumbs. Don’t forget the trunk!

Cleaning out your car can be intimidating at first, but if you take it step by step, the cleaning process gets much easier.

The Benefits of All-Wheel Drive

Benefits of All Wheel Drive

All-wheel drive (AWD) is a major selling point for some car buyers. Perhaps you even know someone who would never even think of buying a car without AWD. But, what are the actual benefits of AWD? Let’s find out, so you can shop smart.

Improved Traction

Because power is sent to all four wheels, AWD vehicles provide improved traction. Especially in slippery, snowy, muddy, or off-road conditions, AWD reduces the likelihood of getting stuck. Improved traction can be especially helpful when towing.

Better Acceleration

Since AWD vehicles distribute the traction load between the four tires more evenly than front-wheel or rear-wheel drive cars, you can expect better acceleration from an AWD vehicle.

Increased Resale Value

Though the additional cost of some AWD models may seem like a drawback, this up-front cost translates into higher resale value if you ever decide to sell your car. Investing in AWD not only makes your vehicle more capable, but it could save you a big headache when the time comes to sell it.

Peace of Mind

Even if you’re not taking your car off-road and into the mountains, or through icy terrain in a remote location, the unexpected still happens. Bad weather can turn paved streets into uncertain territory. Being prepared offers the peace of mind that you and those around you are ready for whatever comes your way.
